홍익대학교 서울캠퍼스의 확장 설계는 단순히 프로그램을 위한 새로운 공간을 마련하는 것 이상의 의미를 가진다. 캠퍼스의 경계를 물리적으로나 은유적으로 서울시와 더 큰 학계로 확장할 수 있는 기회를 창출하는 것이다.
부지는 와우산과 역동적인 홍대 인근이라는 두 개의 강력한 경계에 둘러싸여 있다. 디자인은 와우산 숲을 잇는 새로운 풍경에 몰입하는 공공 공간으로 사람들의 에너지를 끌어들이는 두 가지의 종합체가 되고자 한다. 디자인은 프로그램을 수용하는 매우 효율적인 볼륨을 만들어 캠퍼스의 나머지 부분을 위한 작업 도구가 될 것이다.

Designing the expansion of the Hongik University Seoul Campus means more than finding new spaces for program. It creates the opportunity to open the boundaries of the campus both physically and metaphorically to the City of Seoul and to the larger Academic World.
The site is embraced by two strong boundaries: the Wow Mountain and the dynamic neighborhood of Hongdae. The design aspires to become a synthesis of the two, attracting the energy of the people into public spaces that are immersed in a new landscape continuing the Wow Mountain forest. The design creates a very efficient volume that houses the program, becoming a working tool for the rest of the campus.
