Gradient Garden City

이 제안은 가든시티를 추상적인 이상이 아니라 일상의 삶 속에서 형성되는 도시적 조건으로 재해석한다.

자연을 하나의 대상이나 이미지로 도입하는 대신, 이 프로젝트는 도시 자체를 주민들이 거주하고, 가로지르며, 함께 사용하는 연속된 풍경으로 구축한다. 기존 지형을 존중하며, 마스터플랜은 도시와 자연이 점진적으로 이어지는 그라디언트 구조로 조직된다.

테라스형 건물은 지형을 따라 배치되어 건축은 한 발 물러서고, 정원과 나무, 열린 공간들이 공유된 생활의 기반을 형성한다.

공공 공간은 하나의 광장에 집중되는 대신 Layered Commons 개념을 통해 지상 보행로, 공동 마당, 테라스, 녹화된 지붕 등 여러 층위에 분산되어, 주거와 도시의 공적 삶을 연결하는 네트워크를 형성한다.

과거 산업 부지를 일상의 가든시티로 전환함으로써, 이 제안은 건축이 배경이 되고 풍경이 삶의 기반이 되는 회복력 있고 인간 중심적인 도시 모델을 제시한다.

This proposal reinterprets the garden city not as an abstract ideal but as a lived urban condition shaped by everyday routines.

Rather than introducing nature as an object or image, the project constructs the city itself as a continuous landscape that residents inhabit, cross, and share. Respecting the existing topography, the masterplan is organized through a gradual urban–nature gradient.

Terraced buildings follow the terrain, allowing architecture to recede while gardens, trees, and open spaces form a shared living ground.

Public space is distributed through Layered Commons—a network of ground-level paths, communal courtyards, terraces, and planted roofs that connect private housing to collective urban life.

By transforming a former industrial site into a garden city for everyday life, the proposal presents a resilient and human-centered urban model where architecture steps back and landscape becomes the framework of living.
